The Aycliffe Cancer Support is now celebrating its first year after being started by Allison White. Over the year 21 members have attended the meetings. They have enjoyed day trips which helped to get them out of the house just for those few hours to help gain confidence back.
“We are all good friends now and most of us feel we have known each other for years. When first diagnosed with cancer some people don’t know what to say to each other especially family and friends and this leaves them feeling lonely and that is it is important to run this group”. said Allison.
She thanks everyone for their continuing support and encourage anyone affected by cancer whether a patient, carer or relative to come along to see what they do.
If you don’t have the confidence someone from the group will meet with you first just to make you feel a little better, but there is no need to worry it is not a group where you are forced to talk about your illness, and you can simply just come along and listen Speakers come from Macmillan Welfare Rights, a Dietician, Age Uk and there are many more to come.
This year the group hope to have more trips as it helped so many people, lifting their spirit to keep fighting. The next meeting is 5th March with a lady from Healthwatch, who ensure you get the best health and social care in County Durham.
