On Wednesday 2nd February, children from Year 6 at Byerley Park Primary School enjoyed an exciting 3-day residential trip to Robinwood Activity Centre, located at the 18th century Barhaugh Hall in Alston. The snowy views on the coach journey were truly breath-taking while the roads were extremely windy! After leaving the coach, a gruelling 2-mile walk lay ahead for the children, giving them ample opportunity to appreciate the wonderful view over the valley as well as the varied wildlife in the surrounding area. On arrival at the centre, the children were quickly off and accessing the full range of challenging and exhilarating activities on offer including: a giant swing, canoeing, trapeze, night line, caving, climbing, a crate challenge, a dungeon and so much more! A definite favourite was the ‘Piranha Pool’ where children learned the value of effective teamwork to overcome difficult challenges and their own fear, before their time was up and the piranhas were released!
The residential provided many new and exciting challenges for all pupils and it was brilliant to see them grow in confidence and develop important life skills such as problem-solving, resilience, communication and determination. Both the staff and children had a fantastic time, and they have created so many wonderful memories that they will undoubtedly treasure forever!
