Students from Year 10 at Greenfield Community College, Sunnydale Campus, visited St James’ Park as part of the Building My Skills programme recently.
The programme is run by the Esh Group, one of the leading construction companies in the North of England employing over 1,000 people. Each student was given a 20 minute mock interview with representatives from some of the leading businesses/companies in the North East including Barclays Bank, Capita, Deloitte, NRG, Newcastle United and Mercure hotel group.
All students in Year 10 on the Sunnydale campus have completed the Building My Skills Programme this year, a structured employability skills programme that brings together more than 30 businesses from different sectors of the world of work.
The programme aims to broaden students’ minds about possible future employment and inspire them to select more challenging career pathways. It promotes a range of job roles in different sectors, helps students complete an employability portfolio, a series of essential documents required to access the workplace, and provides mock interview experience.
Although nervous at first, stduents really enjoyed the experience finding the interview process valuable in preparing their futures and the world of work.
