Sunday 9th February was an excellent afternoon of basketball for the Durham Wild Cats National BBL team and the Greenfield Community College U13 players pictured above.
The Durham Wild Cats National League team played against the Birmingham Knights, and won convincingly after an outstanding display of basketball by 103 points to 70. The Wild Cats Inter-academy U13 Girls Championship, which the Greenfield team competed in, took place prior to this National League game at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.
The Greenfield teams were delighted to finish in Gold and Bronze medal positions, with Durham Johnston in 2nd place. This was a close final where Greenfield ‘A’ Team won by 6 goals to 4, with a winning basket from Molly Waine.
Greenfield’s Year 7 Team also played extremely well in this Year 8 tournament, losing out in the Semi Final by only one basket to Greenfields Year 8 ‘A’ Team. A special ‘well done’ to Anna Cialis-Hodgson (who attends Byerley Park Primary School) who was selected by Greenfield Community College to represent Greenfield Academy at U13 level whilst still U11; a fantastic achievement.
The girls are now looking forward to the South West Durham Basketball Championships on Tuesday at Durham Johnston and to continuing Greenfield’s success in this area.  Good luck!
