Darren Lowe and myself (Lee Weldon) were hesitant volunteers when we were invited by Paul Howarth to host a weekly live Sports Show on Aycliffe Radio on the day our community based radio station was launched back on Friday 1st December 2017.
However as we have now reached our 20th show, we feel that we have both grown in confidence and genuinely enjoy doing the show with a blend of guests, sports news and music.
What has been a real “eye opener” is the amount of young talent, in the various different sports, that we have here in Newton Aycliffe. We have also been in awe of the many people who work tirelessly in voluntary roles to support the various clubs which gives these youngsters a safe and regulated environment to play their chosen sport.
We have been incredibly privileged to interview some remarkable Newtonians during our 20 weeks doing the show, especially some clearly talented Aycliffe youngsters who have already represented their country in their sport such as Gregor Mills and Finlay Braden at Ice Hockey and Chloe Ryan at Football.
As the show continues to develop, we are always looking to publicise all the different sports in Aycliffe, however diverse.
