Waldridge Park West 6 v
Aycliffe U13 Eagles 0
A cup game against a side two divisions higher in the league was always going to be a challenge for the boys. That being said, everyone was so proud of their performance and the score line doesn’t justify how well the Eagles played. The Waldridge coach commented on how well the lads played despite the final score. MOTM: Ellis.
This was followed by a catch up with our sponsor, meeting Christie from Newton Aycliffe McDonalds. She was very keen to find out how the boys have been getting on and to offer support going forward. The team are very grateful for the support of McDonalds and wear the sponsor on our strips with pride.
Darlington Locos 0 v Aycliffe U18 Girls 1
Penultimate league game of the season as we travelled with a depleted squad because of holidays and work. Aycliffe started brightly with some great diagonal balls into the box, but Darlo were defending in numbers and coped well. Neither team managed to carve out any clear-cut chances. HT: 0-0. Then a ball through to Alex on the edge of the ‘D’ closely marked by the defender but she moves the ball and loops a shot over the keeper to take the lead. Darlo were now pushing everyone forward but graft from the midfield and solid defence was backed up by our stand-in keeper, Katie Smith, who deserved her clean sheet. A goal mouth scramble could have given us a second goal but we played out the game and took the 3 points. Great team performance with several girls playing in unfamiliar positions, but we did work hard to take the win.
Newton Aycliffe Women 7 v CLS Waldridge Park Ladies 0
The first half was a scrappy affair with Aycliffe coming close on a number occasions. The deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute as Lottie, on the edge of the box, smashed the ball over the keeper for the only score of the first half. However, the women dominated the second half as débutantes Katie and Beth C both scored twice, Tanisha and a first of the season for Rio completed and emphatic victory. POTM: Beth C.
