The final session before the school holiday break, arrived for Newton Aycliffe Wildcats Girls Football. This FA initiative to encourage more young girls to participate in football over a 16 week period, was a huge success in Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding area. Each week over 25 girls, aged between 5-11 years old, turned up for a session of fun and smiles. Girls are asked to support the Women’s European Football Finals, as England look to conquer the rest of Europe. The girls were asked to find out which other countries were competing and paint a picture of their national flag. Then the girls were split into 5 teams, each team representing one of the countries.

After a very competitive set of games it was Spain who came out on top, hopefully for the real tournament it will be England. The girls were presented with medals and trophies by Chloe Ryan a former Aycliffe player who recently represented England Schoolgirls and now plays at the Teesside Regional Talent Centre. To round off a hugely successful day, all the Wildcats were asked to make a salute to the England Lionesses’ along with hundreds of other teams across the country, to support our national team. The Wildcats Football sessions will return after the School holidays and is proving hugely popular as girls sign up for the next block off coaching. There are still places left for any girls who will be in reception, year 1, year 2, year 3 when they return to school in September. If you want to register for a place please contact Berni on 07939 045242 – Wildcats are part of Newton Aycliffe Youth FC, an FA Charter Standard Community Club.
