Darlington Spraire Women 1 v
Newton Aycliffe Youth Women 1
Tough game, but the ladies remain top of the league and their unbeaten run continued in front of almost 40 travelling fans. Darlington had also made a great start to the season and were also unbeaten. From the first whistle the game was open with both teams seeing a lot of the ball. Aycliffe started to impose themselves on the game but couldn’t pick out the final pass. Midway into the first half and the tide switched and Darlington were now posing a threat but the back 3 were up to the challenge and were comfortable, breaking down the play then passing the ball out from the back. HT 0-0. Second half and Aycliffe started off slow allowing Darlington to put the pressure on, but again the defence were strong. Then a simple ball split the defence and Darlington nipped in to make it 1-0. But the reaction was phenomenal. A change of formation then a text book attack played out from the back. Courtney took a quick free kick, playing the ball to Izzy at left back, Izzy picked out Morgan in the middle who quickly moved the ball onto Katie, then the pass of the game, an inch perfect pass into the feet of Kate. Kate, still with it all today calmly slotted the ball past the on rushing keeper into the far corner post and in. Aycliffe now wanted it more and rushed to get the game started again but, unfortunately, ran out of time, final score 1-1. POTM: Lottie Hall, playing in the middle of the three centre backs, she was vocal all game and calm and collected when needed. An excellent performance for the full 90 minutes, well done. As always, a big thank you to all our sponsors including McDonald’s Aycliffe and Anglo Tech Group.
Wolviston Reserves 1 v
Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 7
Another away day today for the Seniors, as they continued the 100% winning start to the season. Nine lads were unavailable, but a squad of 17 travelled for the game. From the opening attack, Ryan Peart was set free and from an impossible angle, he fired home. However, Wolviston responded and scored. Aycliffe then created 9 clear chances that saw Kieran Maughan hit the bar, Andrew Burrows hit the bar twice, post twice, Ryan volley over twice, and two balls passed inside the six-yard box and no one there. Aycliffe finally took the lead when a Niall Douglas shot was spilled by their keeper into the net. This was quickly followed by a 4 pass move that saw Ryan feed Drea Latue to beat the keeper for his first of the season. Three changers at half time, one of the changes, Jimmy Cameron, went past 3 players and rounded the keeper, but was fouled, Jimmy stepped up and fired home the penalty. The remaining changes were made and the lads continued to dominate but, again missing chances. Finally, the 5th goal was added when Jon Hardy went on a run from our own half and kept going finding himself in their box he slid the ball under their keeper, this was quickly followed by Mason Steed getting himself free and chipping the keeper. The game was finished off by Sam Thompson who turned the full back inside out and slotted round the keeper. MOM: Andrew Burrows, dominating the centre midfield.
