Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club has made a number of new signings in the off-season, leading up to the start of the 2015/16 season at the end of August. The new players include three past semi-professionals, Paul O’Donnell, Alex Lineton and Liam Kelly.
Paul who is based at Catterick Garrison has played at a number of clubs, including playing in the back row for Blaydon RFC.
Alex played in the back line for Durham School, where he represented his County and had trials for Newcastle Falcons. He then played a number of seasons at Darlington RFC in the National Leagues.
Liam is a front row player who also played at Schoolboy County level and then on to Darlington RFC. Liam then moved across the pond to the USA where he played at a high level before returning home.
Aycliffe RFC head coach, Peter Ryans said, “We are delighted to have made some great new signings recently and have more in the pipeline. The new players will fit in well to an already strong set of players and will give some great competition for places next season. The club in very much on the up and the standard of our new signings reflects this.”
The new season will see a welcomed return for an Aycliffe RFC 2nd team, so there is an opportunity for all ability levels at the club. Pre-season training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm and Saturday afternoons at 1pm (not on August 1st), at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club, Moore Lane.
