Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training beat the showers and then defeated Wolviston at home by 9 wickets to remain top of the NYSD 3rd division.
The visitors elected to bat first and found Aycliffe bowlers Sam Telford (3 for 24), Luke Telford (3 for 37) and Sean Morgan (2 for 9) in superb form as they were dismissed for just 123 after 44.5 overs.
In reply opener Luke Telford got Aycliffe off to a flying start with an agressive 32, including two boundaries and a couple of big sixes. However, after a long delay for rain, Telford was quickly dismissed after the restart, but fellow opener Sam Telford batted superbly to cap a man of the match performance with an unbeaten 58 and he was given good support from captain Chris Palmer (28 not out) as Aycliffe raced to victory after just 18 overs.
The second team were heavily defeated by 193 runs away at a very strong Billingham Synthonia 3rd team in the NYSD Sunday 2nd division.
The home side elected to bat first and scored an impregnable 260 for 6 in their alloted 45 overs despite some excellent fast bowling from Danny Weldon, who finished his 12 overs with the creditable figures of 3 for 33. In reply, the Aycliffe youngsters were dismissed for just 67 after 25.5 overs with only captain Adam Gittins reaching double figures with the bat.
