Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, were disappointingly beaten by seven wickets away at Great Ayton 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. Aycliffe elected to bat first and scored a commanding total of 237 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs. Opener Luke Telford got the innings off to a flyer when he top scored with 41 from 30 balls. Other major contributions came from 15 year old Tom Dearden (38 from 73 balls) and an unbeaten 34 from 38 balls by Sean Morgan. In reply, Great Ayton batted superbly and timed their innings to perfection as they reached their winning target in the 48th over for the loss of only 3 wickets despite a superb effort by Aycliffe seam bowler Sean Morgan, who toiled in the baking sun for 15 overs, taking all three wickets to fall for 60 runs.
The 2nd team were comfortably beaten by eight wickets at home to Maltby 2nd XI in the NYSD 4th division. The visitors lost two wickets when they replied, but still coasted to their winning target after only 23 overs.
The u15’s suffered a narrow defeat by just two wickets at home to Stockton in the semi-final of the League Plate. Choosing to bat first Aycliffe made a below par 88 for 9 from 20 overs with only Tom Dearden (32 from 31 balls) and younger brother Will (16 off 29 balls) reaching double figures. In reply, Stockton reached 50 for 1 and looked to be coasting to victory, but a tremendous fight back gave Aycliffe some hope as the visitors lost seven wickets for 37 runs, but in a tense finale they eventually reached their winning target with just four balls of the game remaining.
The club’s u13’s team made it through to the semi-finals of the NYACC league cup after a thrilling victory by 11 runs at home to Hartlepool. Electing to bat first Aycliffe scored 94 for 5 in their 20 overs with captain Will Dearden top scoring with an unbeaten 30 off 45 balls. In reply, the visitors were restricted to 83 for 7 from their 20 overs thanks to some excellent fielding and good bowling from Alfie Spensley (2 for 8), Luca Randall (1 for 6) and Tom Norman (1 for 10).
The u11’s continued their recent good form, this time winning by 14 runs away at Norton in the NYACC League. In the Aycliffe innings, captain Joey Hayman top scored with 17 and other good contributions came from Daniel Collet (14 runs) and Trent Telford (13 runs). When Norton replied Phoebe Sproat bowled well taking 2 for 4, but in a tense finale Joey Hayman took three wickets in the last over to help Aycliffe to a thrilling victory.
