A volunteer at The Auckland Project has received a special recognition and long-service award from the Bishop of Durham.
Denise Stewart has volunteered at Auckland Castle for 36 years and has known five different Bishops of Durham during her time there.
The Right Reverend Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham, presented Denise with her special recognition and long-service award at a ceremony in Bishop Town Hall, organised by The Auckland Project as part of Volunteers Week from 1-7 June.
The Auckland Project is grateful for the support of almost 300 volunteers in a variety of roles, and the awards ceremony was organised to thank all the volunteers who gift their time to The Auckland Project.
Over 100 volunteers attended the celebration event on the evening of Friday 2 June, where their achievements were recognised by The Auckland Project team.
Michele Armstrong, Head of Volunteering at The Auckland Project, said: “We couldn’t do what we do without the team of volunteers, who support many departments across all our sites, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do.
“Denise’s achievement is particularly noteworthy, but every volunteer at The Auckland Project is valued, whether they have been with us for 30 days or 30 years!”
Volunteering at The Auckland Project gives volunteers a unique opportunity to gain experience within a range of heritage attractions, including galleries, gardens, museums and much more. It is a great way to immerse yourself in history, heritage, art and culture, learn new skills and make friends.
