Around Town saw our year out with a visit from the Mayor Cllr Carl Robinson and Anne West, Lisa Cricket and Jackie McFadden from All Disabilities Matter, the Mayor’s chosen charity for 2023/2024. Collaboration with the Mayor raised the group’s profile making people more aware of the challenges facing the disabled in our community, and the new year saw their membership increase in excess of 1600.
It’s the guests who make the show a success and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our guests who came into the studio in 2023 to share their passion and commitment with us. Many of which have agreed to come back on the show again over the coming months with updates on the progress of their group and fundraising activities.
The show in its present format will continue to develop and grow in 2024. The shows social media page attracts interest from around the world, and our studio guests make it work, but the success of the show goes much further than just Andy and myself, and three people from Aycliffe Radio deserve recognition for their contribution to the show. Paul Howarth, for providing the platform for Andy and myself enabling us to champion the individuals, groups and organisations in our community. Colin McNeillie, for the technical advice and guidance when we needed it and, last but not least, Amy Turner who, a few years ago, helped sow the seeds of an idea that would grow and evolve into the show we have today.
Our town is lucky to have so many people, groups and organisations who are committed to the help, support and welfare of others in our community and Andy and I will continue in the coming year to use the Around Town show to promote the great work they do.
