Woodham Academy launched its second Apprenticeship Awareness Challenge on 18th September. The event saw 150 Year 9 students take part in a speed networking event in conjunction with six local companies from Aycliffe Business Park.
Each student has been matched to one of the six companies and will spend the next nine weeks leading a research trail into the career opportunities available within the company, with a specific focus on the apprenticeship opportunities available.
This year the school is supported by Finley Structures, The Bignall Group, Ebac, A Tech Fabrications and Training, SWDT and Gestamp Tallent as the students battle to become the Apprentice Awareness Challenge winner for 2014.
Sarah McGinnety, lead for Careers Education at Woodham Academy, said “This event has had a significant impact on student learning about local job opportunities and we look forward to working over the next two months with the chosen six companies to allow for those learning opportunities to be further maximised”.
Woodham Academy was awarded the Investor in Careers Kitemark earlier this year in recognition of its excellent careers education.
