Apprentice winner 2013 web
Over the past 6 weeks students at Woodham Academy have been involved in an Apprenticeship challenge with local company Gestamp Tallent. Six students have worked in groups to design, develop and produce a concept one-person transport system. Students took their final ideas and presented them as a sales pitch to a group of company managers during a recruitment day.  In the course of the day students found out what it was like to participate in a formal interview, completing an assessment task and having a plant tour.

By working with the company, students got the experience of going through a real life recruitment process and gained interview skills for the future. The challenge concluded with a formal presentation at school by Peter Gallone, the company director of operations. The overall winner, James Newton, was offered an apprenticeship with the company.  James said “this has been an excellent opportunity to give me both experience of applying for apprenticeships and also valuable interview skills.”

Deputy Headteacher, Jonathan Lumb commented “The apprenticeship link with Gestamp Tallent goes from strength to strength. We are delighted to continue to work with such an impressive company. Our Year 11 students are very fortunate to have this opportunity and to gain a real apprenticeship at this company.”
