Athena Sports Academy, based in Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre are holding their very first Acro gymnastics competition.
Named ‘The Gerry Fuller Invitational’, the event will be taking place on Sunday 22nd Oct and will see 5 clubs from in and around the region in attendance.
Gerry Fuller was a founding member of Athena Sports Academy and although Gerry sadly passed away in Jan 2015, her legacy lives on through her many colleagues, friends and family who continue to run the club with her ‘open’ and ‘inclusive’ philosophy in mind. Without the hard work and commitment from Gerry, it’s clear that the foundations to establish the club would not have been laid and for this reason, we are incredibly proud to honour Gerry by dedicating this competition in her memory.
Her daughter, Brittainy Fuller, the Director and Head Coach of the club is thrilled to extend an invitation to the local community to attend the event. To all who knew Gerry or who have supported Athena over the years, this is an amazing achievement and an accumulation of many years-worth of dedication from all involved.
Athena has over 300 members, all from Newton Aycliffe and surrounding areas, so it would be amazing to show the visiting clubs the fantastic ‘home support’ which the club regularly receives. There will be refreshments available all day and with ‘half-time’ performances from Athena’s Elite Gymnasts and Nemesis All-Stars Cheerleaders,  this event won’t disappoint!
Held in the main sports hall of Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, doors open at 9am, with the competition starting at 10am. Tickets are just £4 per person. ALL AGES WELCOME!
With over 100 gymnasts competing in various partnerships, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience higher-level Acrobatic gymnastics whilst also supporting your local sports club and it’s gymnasts as all proceeds are re-invested in the club.
