You might have seen officers from our Roads and Armed Policing Unit using stingers to stop dangerous drivers with this piece of kit often making a speedy appearance from the boot of a BMW.
But you won’t have seen our police motorcycles armed with it. Until now.
That’s after a more compact version was created specifically for our bike section, allowing all RAP officers to use one, whichever vehicle they’re driving.
Inspector Kev Salter said: “The stinger is a key tool we use to end pursuits safely but we’ve never been able to put them on the back of bikes before due to the design.
“An officer on a motorbike can often get to an interception point sooner than a car and help us end a pursuit even quicker than before.”
