Here is your weekly update from Newton Aycliffe Police.
I want to update all residents of Newton Aycliffe around the ongoing work that is being done by the Police and partners in addressing the issues that we know we have all been facing over recent weeks.
A small minority of young people have been causing a great deal of distress to local residents by causing Anti-Social Behaviour and breaking into garages. We, alongside our colleagues from the volume crime team, have been working tirelessly in arresting those responsible, collating the evidence and then remanding them and putting them before the courts. On Friday of last week once of these youths was handed a 4-month custodial sentence. This is a fantastic result and I hope it will give residents some peace of mind knowing that we are dealing robustly with those that cause misery in our community. The other two young people are now on an electronically monitored tag, which means that they have to be in their home addresses at a certain time, if they are not, then we are notified, and they are arrested and put back before the courts.
I know at times you have all been frustrated and I want you to know that equally we share your frustrations, but the key to this is working together. Those officers and partners that look after Newton Aycliffe are committed and passionate about the job that we do. I know that residents of Aycliffe are too, and only a small minority of our community spoil it for us all. But please be assured we are doing everything we can to take robust action against those that blight our community.
We are working in partnership with County Councillors, LIVIN, GAMP and Great Aycliffe Town Council on a project that will see the introduction of Rapid Deployment CCTV cameras across the town. There will be five cameras in total, and they will be installed in key strategic locations, where problems have been identified around Anti-Social Behaviour or Crime. These cameras are not fixed and can be moved into different locations across the town. This forms part of our ongoing problem-solving work to tackle ASB.
Finally, I want to reassure residents that Newton Aycliffe Police Station is staffed 24/7 with Police Officers working from the Police Station all hours of the day and night.
Thank you all for your continued support.
If anybody has any ideas moving forward, please feel free to contact me on this email address: Michael.welch@durham.police.uk
Stay safe.
