Last Friday, many people living around Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School will have noticed that pupils had ditched their smart purple uniforms in favour of red clothing and accessories. In school, they had also swapped their usual Friday lessons for discos and magic shows ran by Professor Nincompoop. These unusual changes were all for a good cause: Red Nose Day 2017. To participate in the day’s frivolities, pupils were only too happy to make donations and many wore the red noses they had already purchased from the school office. Leading up to the event, children learned about the thousands of projects Comic Relief did in order to assist people around the world.

Through lessons and assemblies, children recognised there are people much less fortunate than themselves and as global citizens, they could help. As well as supporting a good cause, children had a fantastic time on the day. On reflection, one child commented, “It was great fun. I really enjoyed the magic tricks.” While another said, “Professor Nincompoop was very funny and he even made the teachers dance.” Altogether, £377.42 was raised. The school would like to thank the children and their parents for all their generous donations and enthusiasm that made the event a success.
