History repeats itself as the Romans return to County Durham for the Bank Holiday weekend.
Organised by Durham County Council’s Archaeology team, re-enactment group Roma Antiqua will be demonstrating the Roman times on Monday 25 May at Binchester Roman Fort, just outside Bishop Auckland.
Audiences can expect a trip back into time as Roma Antiqua demonstrate archery, sling staff and other weaponry. The re-enactment group will also tell the tales of Roman Army life and what it was like to live in Binchester during the Roman period.
Also attending Binchester Roman Fort will be the expert cavalryman Barbaratus and his trusty steed ‘Blue,’ as they demonstrate ancient riding, fighting  and horseback skills.
The event begins at 11.00am continuing throughout the day until 4.30pm. To see all the events, people are advised to arrive by 2.00pm at the latest.
Ticket prices are adults £5.00, concessions £4.00 and children £3.00 (under 4s go free). Assistance dogs allowed only.
