The weather again caused havoc at the weekend with all of Newton Aycliffe Crickets Club’s fixtures being cancelled due saturated grounds making an unprecedented total of 27 matches being cancelled so far this season. However in mid week, the 1st team, sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training reached the semi-finals of the Fenwick cup with a tough nine run win away at Spennymoor. Asked to bat first, opening batsmen Graham Telford hit a fluent 33 to get the Aycliffe innings off to a good start.
Some hefty late order hitting from Michael Howe, who was out last ball of the innings for a superb 42, helped push his sides total to 125 all out from 20 overs. Howe hit one huge six during his innings, which sailed into the car park and managed to damage his own car! Much to the amusement and relief of his car driving team mates. In reply Aycliffe’s Sean Morgan (3 for 53) and Luke Telford (3 for 52) bowled unchanged throughout Spennymoor’s innings and helped restrict them to 115 for 6 in their alloted 20 overs.
