Children from Gala Theatre Stage School (GTSS) have been taking part in final rehearsals for their latest production. Young people aged between three and 12 years old will take to the stage on Friday in Animaniacs, a musical show featuring songs from classic children’s films including The Lion King, Frozen and Mary Poppins. The stars of tomorrow, who have previously taken part in shows including The Wizard of Oz and Seussical the Musical, are now spending their halfterm getting prepared for Friday’s two performances. Kate Sorahan, who manages GTSS, said: “The juniors have been working hard in the leadup to the show and we are now all looking forward to the performances at the end of the week. “The show is a perfect opportunity for the younger students to showcase their talents in our wonderful theatre before the seniors and Ensemble star in the musical RENT later in the summer.”

Editor: We print this story knowing full well some content is out of date, but just to highlight to readers how inefficient the County Council is in disseminating information. For years I have been complaining about receiving press releases on a Thursday, after our deadline has passed,  with news on events happening at the weekend or the following week. This is unfair denying our readers the opportunity to participate in County organised events. Another instance was when the Council decided to offer free swimming sessions. It arrived on Thursday after our newspaper had gone to press, so again our readers were unaware of the offer for that weekend. The story above is a good example and you can’t tell me they do not know what is happening at the Gala Theatre just a few days before the actual performance. This happens regularly and I have asked our local County Councillors to register my discontent. It would appear the Council are still in the age of Daily newspapers with  declining circulation. Free weekly community newspapers, like ours, are more popular, are avidly read and when delivered to each household certainly have greater coverage. A shake-up and review of press information is clearly required at County Hall.
