This weekend the Oak Leaf has been awash with the royal blue of Newton Aycliffe Youth teams representing our town.
U11 Eagles 3 – 1 Hartlepool St Francis
It was good to get back to it on Sunday after a few weeks off and I think it showed as the lads started well but slowly. Hartlepool went ahead early with the fortuitous looping goal which left Isaac with no chance. The lads kept positive and kept battling away and got their rewards before half-time 1-1 with a well taken goal.
The second half saw a good tight game of football with both teams going for it. We put the pressure on and finally got our second goal. After that the lads relaxed and played much better football which meant we then got our third before the end of the game. Really pleased with the lads attitude and commitment throughout the game today. Goals today from, Noah, Ethan, and Kye. Man of the match went to Noah.
U8s Eagles 3 – 1 Washington Pumas
Excellent finish to the summer league which has seen the boys finish as runners up for a 2nd season in a row. Well done to the boys who constantly work as hard as they can and will now be rewarded.
Wildcats 2 – 5 Norton & Stockton
Another fresh morning, another fresh start to a cracking game! The first half saw some fantastic play with the girls immediately pressing forward with superb passing and teamwork. 7 minutes in, a great team run led to a well-placed ball from Erin to Demi-Lee who converted it into Wildcat’s first goal. A solid defence from Freya, Tilly and Ruby meant lots of runs for Thea and Erin. The opposition came back a goal but were quickly responded to by another Erin pass to Demi-Lee and their second goal. Everyone was working hard, passing well and pressing forward – it was fantastic team work. Lana made some great saves, and the opposition were hitting the ball hard! Following two further opposition goals, first half ended 2-3.
Safiye and Anna joined the defence in the second half and worked hard against a tough team. Freya and Safiye were supporting Lana well, by sweeping away balls from dangerous areas. Anna kept getting in the way of the opposition with her well thought positioning and kicks. Demi-Lee made lots of runs with support from Thea, both having lots of strong attempts on goal. Great passing! It was great to hear lots of shouting for the ball today, communication improving so much. With the score 2-4, Heidi made her team debut and rallied hard – chasing down the ball well. A penalty, that Lana managed to get a hand to, made the final score 2-5.
Wildcats played hard, passed brilliantly and not once stopped playing as a team. Whilst some players showed some new skills, and others showed massive improvements – EVERY single player showed teamwork, and the girls should be proud of a well-played match. Bev was SUPER proud!
Players of the match, Thea and Freya. Goal scorer, Demi-Lee. Well done Wildcats – keep up the great work!
U14 Hawks 6 – 2 Blackwell Rangers.
Great 50 minutes and an average last 20. Got to keep playing for the full 70 minutes. 6-0 up and cruising we took our foot off the pedal. Goals today Jack Fleming 3, Ethan Gray 2, Dylan Redpath 1. Man of the match James Flynn for a great performance in left back, winning tackles, supporting the attackers.
U15 Falcons 12-0 Wynyard Village
Tremendous squad performance today that got us an excellent and deserved result. The Falcons warmed up and prepared well with new Falcons coach Sam Pascoe assisting with pre match drills. They set up correctly, were technically and tactically on top and every single player did their jobs very well. By HT the Falcons were 6-0 up and sportsmanship changes were made including playing a Goalkeeper outfield (who scored) but the Falcons were just too strong and finished by adding another 6. Goal scorers: Adam Askew 3, Cole Harrison 2, Jacob Gibson 2, Luke Robinson 2, Spencer O’Sullivan 1, Aarron Hepburn 1 and Jack Birbeck 1. Quality all round today with many contenders but Man of the Match went to Jack Birbeck for excellent ability and attitude.
