Newton Aycliffe Youth FC U9 – 1 Darlington TSC Whites U9 – 1 The boys were at home last week to a battle hardened TSC. Youthy were up for it from the start, adopting a 2-2-2 formation, pressing high and creating many chances. The breakthrough came shortly before half-time, after a scramble in the box when Oliver confidently slotted the opportunity home to take a 1 nil lead into the break. In the second half we knew they would come at us hard with the wind against us. Posi came on, making some notable trademark runs and crosses but no-one was able to convert. Digging deep in the final minutes, and despite defending like warriors, TSC penetrated down the centre and a wind assisted shot flew in to equalise. Both sides weren’t content with a draw, both having opportunities in the final seconds. The game did finish 1-1, a deserved point for both teams. There have been many games this season where the performances didn’t reflect the result, so an overdue maiden point of the season for the boys. Well done with a team MOM! Last weekend saw the Club’s two oldest male sides play. Saturday saw the U18s travel away to Washington, looking to build on the good performances of the last few games. They did just that and picked up their first win of the season, 2-1 with goals from Lewis Breckon and Sam Thompson. This was a result waiting to happen, with the lads believing in themselves. Sunday saw the U23’s travel away to Hartlepool FC in the cup quarter final, running out 2-0 winners against a side they have lost to twice already this season. Both goals came from Adam Scott but it was a total team performance with everyone playing their parts. That’s 7 wins already this season, which hopefully we will turn into double figures over the next couple of weeks. Deerness – 2 NAYFC U14 Girls – 11 In a rather windy Sacriston the girls took on Deerness. Within the first minute a cross from Hattie was shot into the goal by Kate, but no sooner did we kick off again than the opposition striker took advantage of our keeper being well off her line and chipped it over her head. Before we could take a breath, a through ball from Hattie and some fancy trickery on the edge of the box by Alex, saw another goal. Three goals in the first 3 minutes! Some more end to end play then saw the Deerness keeper come out to meet Kally but she poked it passed her. With everyone working hard, a nice 1-2 from Hattie and Kate saw Kate cross in for Alex to blast the ball into the net. The defenders kept on top of any attempts to break through and our sweeper keeper Faith, who according to the ref is “as mad as a box of monkeys”, dealt with any stray balls. A lucky lob however, beat a sprinting Faith into the goal. The last word of the half was had from a long shot from Hattie taking the HT score to 2-5. The second half was much the same, with our defence shutting out any threats and soon Hattie and Alex were scoring more goals. The turn of the Deerness keeper to try rushing a striker, resulted in a goal from Hattie who went on to score 3 more after that. A superb curling shot from Alex and a run through every one saw 2 more goals. Kate 1, Alex 4, Kally 1, Hattie 5. A big shout out has to go to our defender Macy who only flew in from the USA at 8 this morning . . . now there’s commitment.
