British summertime ends this week and the nights will get shorter, hoggies are coming out of hibernation and the ones that haven’t woken as yet will still be sleeping in your gardens and parks. I am asking all of you to please check your gardens before power tools are used, hedgehogs don’t run, they curl up, imagine the pain they suffer when garden tools are used on them. Please check, only takes minutes to save these beautiful little ones lives and their hoglets will be coming soon too. Also sports netting, their eyesight is very poor, constriction injuries are also very painful and they can’t escape predators either. Sorry, but all this has to be said, we are dealing with Britain’s favourite mammal and gardens best friend and unbelievably cute, which is why we have more than 1000 hedgehog champions who run rescues from the privacy of their homes in the UK.
This rescue won’t be releasing any as yet, the nighttime weather conditions are still too cold. Myself, Terri, Peter and Denise have put a great deal of love and care into those we still have, they have also been desperately poorly when they came in originally, two of them almost didn’t make it. However, they are now fine, Mitzi, Charley, Henry, Ian, Hermione and Holly etc are doing very well.
We also have some raffle tickets for sale, drop me an email if you want ticket, £1 per strip, these funds are purely for food and medicines, antibiotics etc, we have some lovely prizes, a £20 Mcdonalds’s voucher, £20 foot pamper session off Jen, £15 Olive Garden voucher, Tesco £10 gift card off Shirley and lots more.
Tip of the week: if you should see a hedgehog out during the day he or she needs help, please ring The British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801.
