The weather again was the winner last weekend as it claimed most of our matches.
Thankfully, the Under 11 Falcons were able to play their first game for 6 weeks away to Marton, who were top of the league with 10 wins and 1 draw – prior to this match.
The boys started brightly, with lots of energy in midfield from Liam Horner and Will Mawston, who had a couple of chances early on.
Tom Jasper played a sublime through ball splitting the Marton back line for Kieran Gillard to run on to. The Marton defenders managed to recover and snuff out the chance.
Some great corners were swung in by the Falcons, one effort cleared off the line from Will Mawston with their keeper beaten.
Marton had a pacy attack that caught us out a couple of times, they scored a well worked goal with a tidy finish, then a little later a very high ball wasn’t properly dealt with by us inside our area, it broke to the player on the edge of our box and it was slotted away cooly right into the bottom corner.
The defence of Declan Alfie and Cameron were playing the ball out well from the back despite the pressing game from Marton. Half time was 2-0 when it could have conceivably been 0-2.
The Falcons pressed and took onboard their instructions to play the ball shorter rather than looking long as we did a little often in the first half.
We then conceded a penalty after 5 minutes of the 2nd half, Declan Scott found himself isolated against a very quick forward, Declan showed great pace himself to get in a challenge getting a good bit of the ball, referee gave a penalty which was probably the right call.
At 3-0 we still pressed, Kieran Gillham was unlucky with a great strike that rebounded off the crossbar. Marton scored another late on to complete the scoring .
A great effort from the boys, stand out performances were Declan Scott and Cameron Vaughan in the first half dealing with lots of high balls, also very well done to Ethan who was playing his first competitive match. He got around 20 mins of game time, making at least one very fine clearance under pressure. Man of the Match was Declan Scott for a fine first half display at right back, then an equally combative performance at centre back in the second.
U8 Eagles v Leven Athletic. Very proud of all the boys, in what was very cold, difficult conditions. Both teams found the match hard going on a boggy pitch. The Eagles battled hard in a tough match and had a lot of possession and tried to maintain their passing game. The Eagles fly on to their next match keeping their unbeaten run in the league. Well done boys on a terrific performance on yet another cold match day. Bring on the warm weather!
After last weekend’s great result for the Under 15 Falcons, the boys were nominated for the ‘Team Performance of the Week’ on the very popular ‘Grassroots’ Facebook page. I am pleased to announce that they won it and now go forward to the ‘Performance of the Month’ for January for all teams in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance. Well done!
