Denver Pepper, from Newton Aycliffe, who attends Sunderland and Middlesbrough academies, is part of the successful Durham City Juniors, who have been crowned Champs after winning the North East Championships which took place at the weekend and saw over 250 teams over a two-day period.

The teams were put into groups of seven who were all competing for the title. The final saw Durham City Juniors beat Tekkers North East in a 4-1 victory.

The team of U7’s who play in the Russell Foster League on a Saturday, got together in April have shown dedication and passion to their team and become a really good set of friends on and off the pitch.

Over the summer period the team have entered 12 tournaments and walked away with 11 trophy’s which included the Junior World Cup where they were chosen to play as England and beat Germany in the final 2-1.

Steve Reynolds from Durham City Juniors said “I have worked with a lot of these boys from the age of 4 and to see how well they have come on in such a short space is incredible, on Sunday it was a great team effort by all boys who conducted themselves well and were a credit to Durham City.

The team would not be where they are today if it wasn’t for the dedication, support and time from the parents which is very important to have and I would like to thank them all.”

Most of the players have already been invited along to train with some of the top academies to include, Newcastle United, Sunderland AFC and Middlesbrough Academy and for some of them all three.

The same team who have also entered the Pin Point League on a Sunday under the name Newcastle City Juniors, have their first game next week and are looking forward to more success come September.
