Newton Aycliffe Youth FC appealed on a local facebook page for contacts who could take the clubs old strips to needy children in Africa. A quick response was received from a gentlemen living in Whitby but working in the oil industry in Kenya.
The first bundle of strips were collected and delivered to a school for the visually impaired at a village called Cheptubet in the Kerio valley near a town called Iten 200km north of Nairobi. This area is called the ‘home of the champions’ as this is where all the marathon runners train.
Half of the strips are earmarked for a children’s school but delivery was halted due to a local road being washed away during a torrential rain storm. This is just the start of a long relationship between Newton Aycliffe Youth FC and schools in the Iten area
