Once again trees treasured by the community have been felled without notice or explanation. Seven beautiful cherry trees in front of the former police station were chopped down on Monday to the disbelief of residents and pedestrians passing by.
The site is where a new Care Home is being built and no doubt it will have planning authority permission but it is the lack of notice which riles.
Far too often we have complained the County Council do things without regard to what the general public will say, when a short explanation beforehand would be sufficient. The Town Council Environment Committee agreed tree felling should be notified, but it has happened again.
We expect they will say that new trees will be planted to make up for the removal, but that comes too late, after people have been angered.
