The Annual Charity Civic Dinner was hosted by the Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Val Raw, on Friday, 22nd February 2013 at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. The fund raising was in aid of the Mayor’s nominated Charities the “Butterwick Hospice (Bishop Auckland)” and “Combat Stress”.

This year the event returned to the Leisure Centre and proved to be well attended. Outside caterers T. & I. Bell from Washington provided an excellent meal.

A special thanks to Barclays Bank who match-funded the evening’s Raffle and Tombola and a  total amount of £2,143  was made for the two worthwhile charities.

Roger Curtis, President of the Rotary Club responded on behalf of the guests, stating how well the Mayor represents the town in a very responsible and dignified manner. He also praised her work for the Butterwick Hospice and Combat Stress.

John Melvin provided the music for dancing while Aycliffe vocalist “Chrissy” thrilled everyone with a rich variety of songs including a superb rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserable.

The Mayor wishes to thank ‘Chrissy’ and John Melvin for their excellent entertainment.

She also thanks everyone who supported the evening by supplying prizes or attending  the event. Special thanks to friends and fellow Councillors for their generous help with the fund raising and also to Wilkinson Stores in our Town Centre who also gave support.
