Just before Christmas 2012 Kyla Polley moved house to live next door to Jean Pearse a retired school teacher, who taught at St. Francis Junior School where Kyla Polley is now employed as a Breakfast Club Assistant.

They became friends and talked at length about ways of making cheaper meals. After reading in Newton News about people unable to cope at Christmas time through money shortages they were inspired to write a seven day cookery booklet. They selected post war money saving recipes using simple ingredients and methods, to provide substantial meals for a family at the lowest cost.

Newton Press has printed the booklet and it is now on sale at a reasonable price. Initially it will raise funds for charitable organisations in the town.

The booklet is called Austerity Cooking by Kyla Polley and Jean Pearse. Look out for it and please give generously to help support local charities.
