The Painting commemorates 100 years since the start of WW1. and is helping promote work done by ex-service charities. The painting by Newton Aycliffe based  Artist John Palliser  will be unveiled in Gateshead on Friday 8th July at the Old Town Hall Council Chambers, Gateshead before starting a four year UK tour that plans to include several national museums and galleries.
The large painting 150 x 200cm is oil on canvas supported by a small exhibition of additional paintings. John was influenced by the obscentity of the war with the total number of military and civilian casualties over 37 million with over 16 million deaths and 20 million wounded, ranking it among the deadliest conflicts in human history.
The painting respectfully portrays the acts of extreme bravery, bloody obscenity and the consequences of the Great War that has rippled through to modern times.
The unveiling will coincide with ITV’s WW1 commemorative week. John expects a number of high profile guests and local business people to attend along with representatives of local ex-service charity organisations.  The event is free and open to the public.
