To begin with this week I need to advise everyone that on certain parts of our town rat poison is being spread, specifically the Byerley Park and Woodham Village areas. This is not just killing our rats, this has killed a small hog that I admitted last Friday night. Whilst rats are vermin, hedgehogs are not, they don’t carry anything harmful to us, no fleas or anything like that but what is more alarming is that it’s hedgehog baby season, our hedgehogs are Endangered and Protected under the wildlife act, myself and other rehabbers fight really hard so they don’t become extinct and all we ask is that you take care of these beautiful creatures because they are such a blessing to us all. I can’t condone this behaviour and if it has been spread indiscriminately this is an offence and the wildlife police will get involved if I ask them to.
Most of the problems they face are man made, I see them when they come in and it breaks my heart to see them suffer because they ask for very little, a nice bed, some lovely food which brings them love, comfort and warmth to aid their recovery and be released but I won’t release them where they got into trouble in the first place.
This rescue functions because of the support it gets, I want to thank finders for getting these prickly friends to me quickly because it increases my chances of saving them.
Can I also thank Steffie and Nigel for their donation, also Brogan and Gabriel, this is all for our hedgehogs in rescue. My time and commitment to these beautiful creatures is unconditional, I want to help these beautiful little souls and provide them with a safe haven when their lives are threatened so my time is free behind closed doors of our house.
Can I also take the time to say thank you to Elaine and Angela for their help with my rescue, Elaine and her future husband Kev have really worked hard to make their garden safe for Charlotte and Coco this week. Angela for her support in her capacity as Veterinary Surgeon, Grange Vets.
