Honest John’s Cubby stall has donated £1,000 to Great Aycliffe Community Aid Partnership and he is shown here with his volunteer helper, Valerie, presenting the cheque to Pauline Chambers Chairperson of GACAP.
Pauline told Newton News how impressed she was with John’s commitment in supporting Aycliffe organisations. “The hard work he puts in for the community in running his stall is truly magnificent and I could not believe he pays out in excess of £20,000 a year” said Pauline.
John says he could not do it without the support of generous Newtonians who bring goods to the Cubby for him to sell.
“I enjoy the work and meeting people – I get a buzz out of helping voluntary organisations, especially youth groups in Aycliffe” said John.
The money donated to GACAP will help individuals and families in crisis. As the benefit cuts bite hard into people’s income the need for help from voluntary welfare groups will increase.
