Welcome to Spring! Apologies for my absence last week, I have been getting my own health issues sorted starting with my hip being done, it has been very challenging for me because being immobile is something I am not used to. I have had the best of care at home and in hospital which has helped all our hedgehogs, all of which are doing very well.
Thanks to Lorraine and Lisa for their lovely gifts, Donnella, Mandy, Wendy and Wally for their help selling raffle tickets, also June, who hasn’t been well recently, and Valerie for their support too. I still have a long way to go with my recovery but fundraising has to continue, 14 hedgehogs cost a small fortune to feed which is why I want to thank Shirley, our Tesco Community Champion, for allowing me to spend some time in store on Saturday the 8th April to raise awareness and some much needed funds which will help me continue as a rehabber. Myself and Jackie will be there from 10.30, so please come and say hi. Your support is really appreciated.
Most rescues will be releasing in a couple of weeks or so, all overwintered hedgehogs that came in as very small babies will have their first experience of feeling the grass on their under bellies, be able to explore the safe gardens I have chosen for them and also to have babies of their own sometime. What we don’t want is for them is to look danger and death in the face, it’s heartbreaking to see the state of some of them when we get them in. Can I ask everyone to check before using power tools, strimmers make my blood boil with fear, these very cute mammals don’t run, they curl up, sports netting can’t be seen In the dark by hedgehogs, constriction injuries I have seen here can be life threatening, so please lift them about six inches off the ground for these lovely little ones.
There is more, but I have lots of information which will be with me on Saturday.
I hope you like this picture of Holly and Autumn, Holly has had her fair share of illness this year but she is doing really well now (she is on the right), Autumn, poor soul, fell down a drain and cried to get help (on the left). I will be preparing to draw our raffle this week, winners will be contacted of course.
