The swimmers of the town’s Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club took in competitions on three consecutive weekends starting 27th May, where they attended South Tyneside’s Spring Meet at South Shields.
Jessica Bell swam seven races, the highlight being almost three seconds off her best 100m breaststroke time which was good enough to pick up the gold medal. A bronze medal was also won in 100m butterfly. Jessica also qualified for the skins competition through the 200m individual medley, a fun knock-out event of random strokes, where she got through the first round swimming butterfly. Charlotte Lee swam four races in which she set new personal bests in 50m breaststroke and freestyle.
The middle weekend it was to Stanley for Derwentside Swimming Club’s Charity Meet, this time three swimmers taking part. Evie Weston had an impressive competition with new bests in four of five events and she picked up golds in 50m breaststroke and 100m butterfly and bronzes in 50m freestyle and 200m breast. Aviana Wilson undertook eight swims and managed three new personal bests and won five silver medals in 50, 100, and 200m freestyle and 100 and 200m backstroke and also bronze in 50m back. Charlotte Lee beat her 50m breaststroke best again and also PB’d 100m breast picking up two golds and a silver.
Finally it was Middlesbrough where Niamh Renton swam three events setting big personal bests in all of them and coming away with gold in 50m backstroke and silver in 100m backstroke. Aviana Wilson swam three events which included a new 50m butterfly PB. Jessica Bell took on a mammoth ten events, beating PB in four of them including six and a half seconds off her 100m IM time. There were plenty of medals too for Jessica with golds in 50 and 100m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, silvers in 100 and 200m breaststroke and bronzes in 100 and 200m IM.
