On Thursday 7th February the secondary event took place with 82 young people attending representing Greenfield College, Woodham Academy, The Oaks, Whitworth Park, Sedgefield College, King James and Staindrop.

In the morning the young people took part in Dodgeball, New Age Curling, Boccia and Wheelchair Basketball. The activities across both events were delivered by coaches from the SSP, Durham County Council, The FA, South Durham Gym Club and Whitworth Park Sixth Form.

Whitworth Park Sixth Former’s take part in the Sedgefield SSP Leadership Academy Plus programme which offers them training and opportunities to support their leadership in school and the community. Prior to the event they attended an SSP Inclusion Training workshop and did a fantastic job leading the sport sessions.

In the afternoon Schools entered teams into Wheelchair Basketball and New Age Kurling Competitions. There was also an option of a Zumba session for those who would prefer it. 6 teams competed in the Wheelchair Basketball Competition and following some really close and exciting games Staindrop beat a Greenfield and Woodham Combing Team 4-0.

Talented young people were selected from the competition to represent Sedgefield SSP at the County Durham School Games Finals in March. In the New Age Curling The Oaks won the Y7/8 competition and Sedgefield Community College won the Y9/10 competition and will also represent Sedgefield SSP in School Games Finals.

The next SSP Inclusion event is Aquability on the 8th March 2013. At the event young people will have the opportunity to be selected for the County Durham School Games Disability Swimming Gala. Schools can book via the SSP website www.sedgefieldssp.org.uk.
