On Monday, 30th of September St. Mary’s School introduced an excting new venture – the Mini Vinnie’s a children’s version of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP).
We were very honoured to have Fred Heywood SW Durham President of the SVP, to share our success. The whole school, together with parents and grandparents and three members of Saint Mary’s Church SVP attended the special ceremony where pupils were commissioned into the society.
Our new headteacher, Mrs Sowden gave everyone a warm welcome to our special liturgy. Pupils all made their pledge and received a badge.Certificates were presented to children by SVP members Geradine, Molly, Elizabeth, (from St. Mary’s), and Bill Lawson and Michael Wilcock from the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.
Our children are very excited to working with our local SVP in Newton Aycliffe to make sure we try and help people in our town who need it. We will be writing regular reports to keep everyone updated on our progress.
Our first task will be to help our parish SVP in the harvest festival collection where we will be asking for packets, tins and some fresh fruits and vegetables. Mrs. Hargreaves and Mrs. Brown will be overseeing the work of the group and making links with the parish wherever possible.
Finally a big thank you to everyone who made the afternoon special; especially Michael Wilcock and Bill Lawson.
