Dear Sir,

Acorn welcomes the news from our Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg that Newton Aycliffe is to get a new Town Centre police station.

This announcement will come as a great sign of confidence for our brilliant town. Our residents feel for too long we have been policed at arms length and the time has come to promote the presence of officers across our town by displaying a symbolic blue lamp.

Congratulations to Ron and his team for taking decisive action to allay the fears of local residents, Thanks also go to Great Aycliffe Resdients Association for leading the campaign so successfully and to everyone who petitioned and got behind the campaign.

This is a great victory for residents and taken in context with the fantastic surge forward in Newton Aycliffe with the Aldi development over the past year and with the town centre work progressing, the coming of Hitachi, must be the best news for as long as I can remember. Hopefully the spin offs will create even more jobs.

This is the time of year to begin sprucing up our town and if anyone has any potholes in roads, broken paving , or streetlights which require mending please report them to Durham County Council or alternately www.fixmystreet.com which offers an excellent service for reporting things.

May I take this opportunity to thank all who have supported ACORN through its first very successful year and we look forward to continuing our work through 2013

Ken Robson ( Chair )
