Dear Sir,
All Disabilities Matter is a community based support group set up out of necessity and in response to people’s lack of knowledge and understanding of disabilities in all their many forms. Each brings with it, its own challenges, not only for the disabled person themselves, but also for their families and caregivers. The importance of any situation is usually determined by how personal it is, or how much it affects you in your daily life, but without raising people’s awareness to the diversity of disabilities in our community, change and development is a slow uphill struggle, in more ways than one.
In its first two years as a community support group, All Disabilities Matter have helped raise people’s awareness and brought the issues of support and SEN into the public domain, and have established themselves as a group, advocates for change, and as a voice for those unable to speak for themselves.
Thanks in part to their regular appearances as guests on the Around Town Radio show on Aycliffe Radio their membership has dramatically increased and continues to grow on a weekly basis. The town’s Mayor, Cllr Carl Robinson, chose the group as this year’s Mayor’s charity recipient, and their Tuesday morning drop in at the Cafe HQ provides the opportunity for a much needed cuppa, cake and a catch up.
When faced with adversity or life changing challenges it’s so easy to feel powerless, isolated and alone, and when respite isn’t always possible, group support born out of necessity and personal experience is often a lifeline for so many, and the realisation they are not alone, and help and support is there if you want and need it.
All Disabilities Matter can be contacted through their Facebook page or by getting in touch with Phill & Andy Around Town at Aycliffe Radio who will make sure all enquiries are forwarded to the groups admin team.
