The last two years have been an uncertain time for us all and with Christmas 2021 approaching the team at SHINE Children’s Community Choir were keen to spread some much needed cheer into the community.
Recognising it wasn’t the time to put on their usual big Nativity production inside – they came up with a very different idea.
SHINE ON TOUR – Leader Helen McCormick explained, “We all know singing makes you feel good and hearing children sing makes others feel good too – That’s where our SHINE Bright Like a Diamond mission project came into play. No one has been more affected by the impact of Covid than our care homes, it’s residents, staff and visitors, so that’s why we decided to Carol sing, safely outside, during the month of December to all six care homes across our town.
It was a big ask for our children and their families to commit to, but they did and, when able, came along and shared love and kindness through singing to the gathered residents. We must thank all choir members and their families who joined us and thank all of the care homes, the messages we have received, the smiles, laughs and tears made it a very special and very different experience for us all. A small act of giving, which has blessed many, including SHINE children”.
Thanks must also go to the Rotary Club, for funding, which enabled us to purchase a portable outdoor speaker and our very own SHINE hats which helped keep us warm. Also to Newton Press for providing our Christmas Carol song sheets. More photographs / videos are available on our Facebook page: Shine Children Community Choir. Although we are uncertain about new restrictions that may come into place, we hope to celebrate SHINE returning in January (24th) 2022 with a new year, new start party.
