During Holy Week, St Andrew’s Church was egg-cited to welcome pupils from Aycliffe Village School to hear the Easter story and learn a bit about the characters. Every day is a school day and we were reminded that the Easter Bunny is a major player at Easter!
Our day focused on the bible characters, however. The children were asked to find the Easter character names of twelve crocheted eggs hidden inside the church. We hope that their learning was two-fold as firstly they explored the church building finding their way up to the altar and back to the font and, secondly, they learned more about the people in the story that they might not have known about. We all agreed that some of the people had very tricky names to say, including Pontius Pilate and Joseph of Aramathea. It was wonderful seeing the children helping each other find the eggs and they all deserved the chocolate eggs they were given as they left, although we understood that the eggs were unlikely to remain uneaten until Easter Sunday! We hope to welcome more pupils again soon for another learning visit and would like to wish the school and the wider school family a very happy Easter.
