It has been another busy couple of weeks for Aycliffe Running Club as the races continue to come thick and fast through to the end of summer.
On 27th August, four members took part in the brutal Stanhope 10 miler which included three huge climbs but also featured some fantastic scenery. Representing the club were Bernadette Cooper setting a new personal best (1:25:132), Daniel Tatham (1:30:16), Catherine McDonnell in a new personal best (1:40:55) and David Stothard (1:42:38).
On Thursday 31st August the club entered 8 teams into the NYMAC Tom Wall Relays at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough. This saw each runner run one mile before handing a baton on to their teammate. It also included some members running twice on the night with the teams consisting of John Surtees (4:59), Tracey Surtees (5:43), Max Todd (6:17) and Martin Turnbull (5:32), total time 22:31. Max Todd (5:50), Luke (5:54), Henry (5:49), Richard Trowles (5:50), total time (23:23). Richard Trowles (6:03), Dave Blewitt (6:36), Steven Dawson (6:19) and Peter Tennick (6:29), total time 25:27. Peter Tennick (6:27), Richard Holland (5:57), Sarah Gill (7:13) and Stuart Joyce (6:29), total time 26:06. Alan Wilks (7:32), Trevor Needham (6:33), John Burnside (7:21) and Richard Holland (6:10), total time 27:36. Martin Turnbull (5:43), Dave Stothard in a new PB (6:53), Andy Talbot (7:08) and Rob Nicholson (9:27), total time 29:11. Keith Hatton (8:09), Catherine McDonnell (8:14), Ian Stothard in a new PB (8:58) and Daniel Tatham (6:51), total time 32:12. Carley Cooper (7:35), Em Flynn (9:00), Eve Doe (9:17) and Carley Cooper (7:48), total time 33:40.
On Sunday 3rd September, 11 members took part in the Run for All Middlesbrough 10k. Representing the club were Max Todd (42:44), Anthony Dickinson (44:53), Dave Blewitt (46:21), David Stothard (53:22), Trish Kay second lady in the Over 60 category (53:27), Evelina Dogley (53:57), Carley Cooper (57:51), Ian Stothard in a new 10k PB (1:06:16), Emma Flynn (1:10:28), Rob Nicholson (1:10:09) and Susan Clark (1:14:55).
On the same day, three members took part in the third and final run of the Darlington 10k trail series and the Locomotion Trail 10k. Representing the club were Steven Dawson (48:31), Daniel Tatham (49:08) and Tracey Pickering (1:06:45). This led to Tracey finishing fifth in the overall standing for ladies in the series of races with Richard Trowles finishing third overall in the men’s event.
At the same time one member took part in the Scaling Dam 10 which is a 10 mile trail race held in the beautiful North York Moors, starting and finishing at Scaling Dam Reservoir. Sandrine Hewitt completed the course, in very hot conditions, in a time of 2:28:34.
At the same time Richard Trowles took part in the Golden Ball 20 Mile race in Lancaster, finishing in a time of 2:18:31. Richard was looking to be storming to a new club record only for a marshall to send him the wrong way, scuppering his chances. It is only a matter of time before he breaks that record if he continues to maintain his form.
On Saturday 28 August, 38 members started their weekend with a parkrun, taking in the Albert, Finsbury, Town Moor, Sedgefield, Riverside, Darlington South Park, Hackworth, Newbiggin-by-the sea, Keswick, Jubilee, Tidworth and Holyrood events.
At Albert Park, Richard Holland (20:24) completed the course for the first time. Mark Bainbridge also completed the course for the first time setting a new personal best for any parkrun of 21:54. Angela Sutheran (25:40) completed the event at Finsbury Park for the first time. Over at Riverside Sandrine Hewitt (29:57) completed the course for the first time.
At Hackworth Richard Trowles (19:19) finished second in the event. At Newbiggin by-the-Sea, Paul Dalton (20:09) completed the course for the first time finishing second with Jayne Rudd (31:20) also completing the course for the first time in her 75th ever parkrun. There was a parkrun takeover by the club at Jubilee in Spennymoor which saw Gareth Hamblin (20:58) finishing third. Richard Tonge (31:17) and Kathleen Tonge (32:46) completed the event at Tidworth for the first time. At Holyrood both Carley Cooper (29:25) and Emma Flynn (33:35) completed the event for the first time.
