Women and girls from across Durham will come together to run the Race For Life as a group this weekend.
Durham County Council’s Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP) youth workers have been working with young people across the county to train for the annual fundraiser for Cancer Research.
More than 80 runners, including staff and families involved with PAYP have been training since the beginning of the year in various locations and will come together as a group for the event.
The aim of the project was to encourage more young women to take part in physical activity that they could do with minimal cost and the women will gather on Sunday to run together.
Annette Donohue, area youth worker, said: “Everyone involved has worked really hard to make this come together. Thank you to Leisure Services for their initial support setting up the project. The Youth Work staff have worked with the young women since the start of the year on this and we hope to be a visible group presence at the race on Sunday.”
The Race for Life takes place on Sunday, 15 July at 11.00am at St Leonard’s Playing Fields in Durham city.
