Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club held their annual Presentation Evening at Moore Lane last Saturday.
Master of Ceromonies was old boy Dale Kelly who has returned to the club as one of the coaches this season. His natural wit had the audience in stitches and he reflected on yet another great season by the players although falling short of promotion reaching 3rd place again.
Everyone enjoyed a fresh fish and chips supper supplied by an outside caterer, a breakaway from the traditional 3 course meal.
During the main event the following list of players received various awards much deserved.
Chairman’s Award: Stuart McIvor
President’s Award: Drew Gibson
Coach’s Award: Jeff Hodgson
Most Improved Player: Jonny Griffiths
Finally the most prestigious award for the season The Player’s Player as voted by all the players went to the captain Warren Parsonage, who had an outstanding season and led by example throughout.
His award was made by John Whitehouse the MD of Whitehouse Funeral Service who was in attendance with his wife Julie. The club wish to thank John and his company for financial support. As a thank you he was given a framed shirt with his company name displayed. The evening rounded off with a disco and a great time was had by all.
This season has finished, the next season starts now with a massive drive in recruitment to create a second team. Any body interested in learning to play the game or any experienced players unattached to clubs would be made most welcome in our friendly club with fantastic craic. Contact head coach Pete Ryans on 07796 172599.
Our thanks once again go to club sponsors, Honest John, S Cars, Smurfitt Kappa, and Whitehouse Funeral Service.
