Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Franks earned a hard earned draw away at promotion rivals Redcar 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. Electing to bat first, Aycliffe’s opening batsman Sam Telford smashed the homeside’s bowling to all parts of the ground as the talented 19 year old scored a magnificent 115, including 14 boundaries.
Matty Atkinson joined in the fun with an aggressive 63, including two huge sixes and five boundaries and Luke Telford chipped in with a useful 31 as the visitors reached an impressive 265 for 7 in their 50 overs.
Aycliffe’s bowlers found the going equally tough as the homesides batsman also made the most of the run fest reaching 247 for 7 from their allotted 50 overs, with Aycliffe fast bowler Sean Morgan taking 2 for 50 as the game ended in a respectable draw.
Aycliffe’s 2nd team also earned a battling draw away at Wolviston 2nd XI in the 3rd division of the NYSD. Electing to bowl first proved a good decision as Aycliffe fast bowler Danny Weldon was in good form, taking 4 for 27 from 10 overs. Adam Gittins (3 for 12) and Tony Travis (3 for 26) also bowled well as the homeside were dismissed for 117 after 37 overs.
Aycliffe also struggled for runs despite a robust 23 from James Brown and a quickfire 13 from Matty Capper. Danny Weldon chipped in with a useful 12 runs late in the innings, but in a tense finish, last wicket pair John Wardle (7 not out) and Patrick Howe (1 not out) safely batted out the 62nd over as Aycliffe finished their marathon innings on 111 for 9, which helped them to stretch their impressive unbeaten run to six weeks and comfortably placed in mid table.
The u18’s lost by 9 wickets at home to a very powerful Willington team despite a fantastic unbeaten innings of 73 from captain Tom Wickins and useful contributions from Matty Bowmer (15 runs) and Sam Dobinson (13 runs) as Aycliffe reached 116 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Willington coasted to victory with Matty Bowmer taking the only wicket to fall.
Newton Aycliffe’s u15s team had an impressive 6 wicket victory away at Etherley in the County Durham junior league. The homeside batted first and were restricted to 78 for 9 from their allotted 20 overs with Aycliffe’s Josh Pearson (2 for 4), Nathan Parry (2 for 4) and Adam Lamb (2 for 15) all bowling well. In reply captain Josh Pearson top scored with an excellent unbeaten 31 and was given great support from Jack Lowery, who hit 28 as Aycliffe reached their winning target with ease.
The under 13’s lost at home to Hartlepool by just 30 runs in the NYACC league. Chasing 93 for victory, Aycliffe were restricted to just 62 for in their 20 overs, with James Knowlson top scoring with a good innings of 19 runs.
The under 11’s were beaten at home to Billingham Synthonia in a much improved all round performance from the team and in particular captain Lucas Pilling (12 not out) and Keiran Shingler (10 not out). The under 11’s also lost at home to Barnard Castle, but the main bright spot of the game was an excellent innings from Aycliffe captain Lucas Pilling who scored 17 not out.
