Jazzmyn and her coach Tracy Stevens flew out from Birmingham Airport early Thursday morning to Bordeaux. The athletes from Great Britain completed training on Thursday night and on Friday morning Jazzmyn was first up to represent GB, skating a good solid performance in the ladies espoir free skating event, scoring a good Rollart score of 17.86 for her technical and components skills which resulted in 13th place out of 15 athletes.
Coach Tracy Stevens explained, “This was Jazzmyn’s first international free skating experience and she skated a good performance. We are very proud of her skating and also her attitude and behaviour. Representing Great Britain is an honour, privilege and a big responsibility as we are helping to inspire others. We hope to help promote artistic roller skating and help the sport develop.”
“We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported Jazzmyn so far along this journey. We were notified around four weeks ago that she had been selected and we had no idea how we were going to organise the financial side of the trip. When Jazzmyn said yes, she wanted to attend, myself as coach and her mum knew we had a huge challenge ahead. However we have been overwhelmed with support for Jazzmyn. We set up a GoFundMe page, held fundraisers and had collection jars. We just want to say a big thank you to the whole community for your help. We really couldn’t have done any of this without you. It has been an experience that we won’t forget.”
The 12 year old athlete is straight back to training for her next event. Jazzmyn trains at Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon with her team Spectrum Roller Skating Club for 12 hours every week. She has skated with Spectrum Club since the age of 4 and has competed in many club level, national competition and British Championships. This is only her second ever International and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
