Congratulations to Flt. Lt. Karin Scott, Officer Commanding 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron who received her Cadet Forces Medal for 12 years uniformed service to the Air Training Corps. Starting as a Civilian Instructor in 1984 at what was then 2505 (Newton Aycliffe) Detached Flight, Karin helped look after admin on the squadron and took up her interest in adventure training, accompanying the first girls allowed on the squadron on expeditions. She was also a key member of the squadron’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award team. Flt. Lt. Scott was commissioned in 2004 and, after a short secondment at Blackhall Squadron, was a squadron officer at 1407. In 2006 she assumed command of 1407, maintaining the squadron’s strong performance and leading the squadron to being awarded the Lindisfarne Trophy for Best Squadron in Durham/ Northumberland Wing. 1407 remains a consistently high achieving squadron, offering a huge array of Recognition for Service opportunities to its cadets. Flt. Lt. Scott is also the Wing’s deputy DofE Officer and has helped hundreds of cadets to achieve Awards over her 19 years of involvement with the scheme for which she was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
