On Friday 18th of September at 7pm the Public Access Defibrillator will be officially handed over to The Newton Aycliffe Community by the town’s Rotary Club.
The defibrillator has been sited just inside the Tesco store as this has the highest footfall in the area and is accessible to the public almost 24/7.
It also provides a safe vandal proof home for the machine saving hundreds of pounds it would cost in a special casing placed outdoors.
The Local MP and the Mayor have been invited to attend when The President of Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club and members officially hand the defibrillator over for general public use.
Although it has open access for the community in an emergency it remains the property of the Rotary Club so that safety checks and records can be maintained.
A representative of The North East Ambulance Service will be on hand, to demonstrate CPR techniques and to answer questions about using the defibrillator.
There will also be a back to back DVD on show to explain how CPR and Defibrillation can save lives.
Rotarian Jill Thompson said, 999 should always be called if someone suddenly collapses, but we hear on the news how stretched the ambulance service is becoming.
Time is always of the essence and with the right knowledge a life could be saved while professional help is on its way.
Come along on that Friday evening to learn how a little knowledge could save a life, or sign up to attend an information session on CPR – Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitation.
A charity event will be held at the British Legion Club on 30th October 2015 for the Defibrillator fund. Tickets priced £5 inc Supper are now available. Ring 320901.
