Newton Aycliffe Neighbourhood Police team are searching for new premises as the office they share with Newton Aycliffe Firefighters is to be handed back to the fire service in December 2023.
Preferably they would like to purchase an office near to where they are currently situated, opposite the magistrates’ courts.
Great Aycliffe Residents Association, Chaired by the late Syd Howarth and assisted by Ken Robson, Chair of Acorn Residents Association, led a campaign to return the station into the town from the Business Park during the election of Ron Hogg to the role of Police and Crime Commissioner.
The public were fully in support of bringing a blue light back into the town as residents couldn’t find or access the station when it was on the Business Park. Residents felt much safer when the station was relocated close to the centre of Newton Aycliffe.
The present office houses not only our Neighbourhood Police Team but also 16 reactive police team members so needs to be a large premises.
The news sent shock waves through the community and Great Aycliffe Town Council are awaiting further details.
Cllr Ken Robson, Mayor of Great Aycliffe
